Interdisciplinary Workshop on Translating Thomas Mann's Magic Mountain, February 24-25

Veronika Fuechtner and award-winning literary translator Susan Bernofsky have been collaborating on the forthcoming translation of and introduction to Thomas Mann's novel The Magic Mountain. Despite being seemingly set in a bubble, the novel holds multitudes and speaks to more than one spirit of the times--its own and ours. To unravel these threads and throw new light on the classic, they will workshop the text and the possibilities of its introduction to today's readers with Thomas Mann biographers and leading German Studies scholars of psychoanalysis, occult practices, and other topics relevant to the world of the novel.
