Film Screening: Babylon Berlin. Thursday September 19th, 4:30 p.m. Moore Hall B03

Internationally renowned film director Henk Handloegten will present two episodes of the successful TV series Babylon Berlin. It is based on a series of historical crime novels set in late Weimar Republic and early Nazi-era Berlin. At its center are the lives and investigations of the laconic and tormented police detective Gereon Rath and his charismatic and irrepressible assistant Charlotte Ritter. Hailed by the press as a " masterpiece" and "Cabaret on Cocaine" the series pays homage to the visual culture of the German avant-garde and explores the deep political rifts of the time. Its treatment of the rise of fascism is as erudite as it is timely. Screening in German with English subtitles.

Discussion Moderation in English by Veronika Fuechtner, Chair of Comparative Literature.

This open class session is sponsored by the Harris German Program.
