The faculty and staff of the Department of German Studies are proud to announce and congratulate two of our own who are among the thirty-seven students receiving Dartmouth's highest undergraduate academic honors as valedictorians or salutatorians of the 2024 graduating class: Maggie Hamel and Gavin Walsh.
Maggie Hamel, one of our German majors, recently defended her honors thesis titled "An Illusion of Ethical Consensus: How Dishonorable Medical Research Continued in a Post-Nuremberg World" (directed by Professor Veronika Fuechtner). Her exceptional work and dedication have contributed to earning her this prestigious recognition.
Gavin Walsh, a German minor, has made significant contributions to the department working closely with Professor Gerd Gemünden on film studies, by serving as a German tutor, as well as excelling in his other German coursework. His commitment and passion for German studies have been exemplary.
We commend both students on their remarkable achievements and wish them Viel Glück in all their future endeavors!
