On June 2, Profs. Irmela von der Lühe and Veronika Fuechtner introduced Baker-Berry Library's current exhibit of Thomas Mann's antifascist activities. A luncheon reception followed.
What is the role of artists and intellectuals in safeguarding democracy? The Harris-German Distiguished Visiting Professor, Irmela von der Lühe, and the Chair of Jewish Studies, Veronika Fuechtner, introduced the exhibit "Democracy Will Win," which is currently on view near the circulation desk of Baker-Berry Library. It depicts Nobel laureate Thomas Mann's efforts to combat fascism after finding refuge in the US in 1938 and their continuing relevance today. The presentation also discussed the role played by Mann's daughter, Erika. A luncheon reception followed in the library's Treasure Room.
