German Studies major reflects on how police violence bookended his studies

We, faculty and staff in the German Studies Department, applaud Thomas Lane'24 for expressing his perspective on the events of May 1 in his opinion essay in The Dartmouth and for exercising his civic right to free speech. Excessive force use has no place on a college campus and is antithetical to Dartmouth's mission of education and care in the 21st century. We join other colleagues and campus units in holding President Beilock accountable for the college's actions and call on her to lift any and all punitive measures against the students, faculty, and staff who have been arrested.
