The grant offers Maeve, who is a ski team member, an opportunity to study abroad in without compromising the ski team’s demanding training schedule. While the course is shorter than Dartmouth’s LSA/LSA+—thus permitting less immersion—its timing is more flexible and accommodating for athletes. Having completed German 3 on campus, Maeve plans to use her stay in German to expand her linguistic and cultural competencies and to communicate more effectively with German students, academics, and professionals in the area of sustainable engineering technology. She received Yuliya Komska’s mentorship on her application.
The DAAD, an umbrella organization of German universities and student bodies to foster their international ties, is one of the world’s largest funders of educational grants.
