The 2017 Oktoberfest took place October 12 in Occom Commons, McLaughlin. There were brats, pretzels, music, games and crafts. All invited invited to come as you are or wear a dirndl or lederhosen!

Happy Fall Term! Join us for our first German Club meeting on Wednesday, September 13 at 5 pm in the Max Kade Center at Maxwell Hall (near Thayer School of Engineering). We will talk about happenings in the fall term and elect new German Club officers (a president, a vice president, and a treasurer).

This course treats eight of the greatest plays ever written in German, pairing them to highlight historical links, thematic continuities, and formal innovations in their treatment of racial and religious intolerance, attitudes toward women, the causes of history, and the reasons for revolution.

Our spring 2017 Max Kade Visiting Professor Line Hoven, graphic artist and author of celebrated graphic novels in Germany, offered an interactive scratch art workshop.

The Max Kade German Center provides affinity housing for 20 students interested in the German language as well as in other matters Swiss, German, or Austrian. The Center is also a gathering place for non-resident students who share these interests.

April 13-16, 2017. Interdisciplinary conference convenes scholars, archivists, curators, print and online journalists, bloggers, and other advocates of film criticism from Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Yoram Ben-Zeev, former Isareli Ambassador to Germany, will visit our program for an informal discussion in the German Studies Department Conference Room (Dartmouth Hall, 3rd floor) on Monday, February 13 from 4.30-5.30 pm. Topics include the unique relationship between Israel and Germany and German policy on the Middle East conflict.
